Math vs. US

The New York Times recently published an article highlighting a study about American views towards mathematics. The authors believe that the negative cultural stereotype of math being "nerdy" is detrimental to the development of math education in the United States. The study also confirmed that the majority of high achieving math students are immigrants or the children of recent immigrants to this country.

The study delves into the possible reasons for the disparity between American students and their foreign counterparts. The role that gender plays in math proficiency is also explored in relation to student performance in the US and abroad.
