Special Education: Year in Review

New Year's Eve 2008-2009
The year's end is always a time for reflection; for looking back, for looking forward. Educational professionals around the country have researched and reported on the state of the special education system in the United States and compiled their findings in a special report outlining the successes and failures of students-- even as they transition from high school into college, work, or independent living settings. The Editorial Projects in Education Research Center takes us from the past to the future of special education policy, law, and research.
Read all the details here. Don't miss the resource appendix at the end!!!

America's Top High Schools

Students at TJ are celebrating...again!

The Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology is ranked the number one high school in America for the second year in a row! Students and Faculty at the prestigious public school certainly don't take the honor for granted, though. The annual report from USNews compares over 21,000 schools in the contiguous United States based on AP/IB participation, student performance compared to state requirements, and academic performance of minority students.

TJ is not alone in its glory, however; McLean (VA), Walt Whitman(MD), Thomas Wootton (MD), Winston Churchill (MD), Langley (VA), and Woodson (VA) High Schools all rank within the top 100 schools and are designated as the best public schools in the DC area by the report.

See the rest of the list and read all about the designation process here!
